 Hanuman Janmotsav

Hanuman Janmotsav is a very promising, auspicious, encouraging, and favorable festival among the Hindus and is dedicated all over India. As with all other different festivals which are celebrated in India, Hanuman janmotsav is also observed on a different date every year. So in 2021, Hanuman Janmotsav is on the 27th of April. It is celebrated every year on the full moon day during Chaitra month of Chaitra Purnima. (Chaitra: it is the first month as per the Hindu calendar and is March-April in the English calendar).

I would prefer to tell that there is a massive disparity between Jayanti and Janmotsav, Jayanti Means the Birth Anniversary of a person who is not existing now but, Janmotsav means the Birthday celebration of a person who is in this world. So Hanuman Janmotsav is the valid and correct term, as we understand that he is still living! Lord Hanuman retains the blessing and boon of eternity and immortality hence, he is still alive. It is supposed that he stays in the forests of the Himalayas. Whenever the mantra of Hanuman is chanted, it is meant, he manifests in those areas to grant and fulfill the desires of his prayers.  (Chiranjeevis are the people who are supposed to be immortals. Hanuman is the 4th of the Chiranjeevis, who has occurred to be approved of with the boon to live forever.)

Why is Hanuman Janmotsav celebrated?

Hanuman Janmotsav is one of the extensively valuable and fruitful days for Hindus as Lord Hanuman (literal meaning: Disfigured Jaw) was born on this day, he is also the 11th Avatar of Lord Shiva. He is also remembered by numerous names as Maruti, Ram Doot, Pawanputra, Bajrangbali, and many more! Lord Hanuman was born on the full moon of the 15th day of Shukla paksha in Chaitra Month. Lord Hanuman was born to Queen Anjana and King Yamraja Kesari, he is also known as Sankat Mochan and Rudra Avatar of Lord Shiva.

The people who respect, love, and worship Lord Hanuman with all their hearts will surely get the energy and courage to face complications and hardships in their life. Lord Hanuman is deemed to be one of the most influential and powerful deities. He had five actual brothers: Matiman, Shrutiman, Ketuman, Gatiman, and Dhritiman. He is recognised as an exemplification of stability, strength, devotion, and perseverance. Lord Hanuman had an important and crucial role in the epic Ramayan as he helped and supported Lord Rama against his battle with the cruel and demon King Ravana. Tuesday occurs especially associated with the celebration of Lord Hanuman as he was born on Tuesday.

He was seriously and greatly devoted to Lord Rama, he came across to Lord Rama and Lakshmana while they were in exile in the woods searching for his wife Sita when she was carried off by Ravana. Even once Lord Rama asked Lord Hanuman that "what is your relation with me?" And he responded, "referring to your body, I am your servant, as an individual soul, I am part of you, as you are whole, but as the self, we both are one, this is my firm conviction!" Lord Hanuman lives as a representation like a mountain for understanding, devotion, duty, and service. The knowledge of Hanuman was there even before meeting Lord Rama.

Do you know why Lord Hanuman is covered with Sindoor of vermilion?

Lord Hanuman covered his body with a sindoor for Lord Rama, Numerous times you visit the Hanuman temple and you see how the deity is covered in Sindoor; that sindoor is considered favorable. Lord Hanuman once saw Sita Maa wear sindoor on her head and out of curiosity, he asked her why she does she apply it and Sita Maa said Lord Hanuman that wearing sindoor in her head will conclude in Lord Ram’s well-being and long life. That’s when Lord Hanuman was hit by the idea of applying sindoor all over his body to enhance Lord Rama’s life span.

Why did Lord Hanuman have a disfigured jaw?

As per Rishi Valmiki's Ramayana, one daybreak in his childhood, Lord Hanuman was hungry and saw the rising red-colored sun. Blundering it for ripe fruit, he leaped up to consume it. The king of gods: God Indra interfered and attacked Lord Hanuman with his thunderbolt. It hit Lord Hanuman on his jaw, and he fell to the planet dead with a damaged jaw. His father became upset and withdrew all the air on Earth. The scarcity of air created enormous enduring and suffering for all living beings. This led Lord Shiva to interfere and resuscitate Lord Hanuman, which is a twist, urged Vayu (father of Lord Hanuman) to return to the living beings. As the fault was of the god Indra, he grants Lord Hanuman a wish that his body would be as powerful and strong as Indra's Vajra, and that his Vajra can also not hurt him. Along with Indra, other gods have also given him wishes: the God Agni granted lord Hanuman a wish that fire won't harm him; God Varuna granted a wish for Lord Hanuman that water won't harm him; God Vayu granted a wish for Lord Hanuman that he will be as fast as the wind and the wind won't harm him. Lord Brahma also granted Lord Hanuman a desire that he can move to any place where he wants and he cannot be stopped; Lord Vishnu also grants Lord Hanuman a weapon named "Gada". Hence these wishes make Hanuman an immortal, who has unique powers and strength.
