Firstly, we need to know everything related to DEPRESSION like the symptoms, causes, treatment.
WHAT IS clinical DEPRESSION?
Clinical Depression is also known as Major Depression.
Depression is a Mental Health disorder characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. Depression can also be associated with thoughts of suicide.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?
- Mood: anxiety, apathy, general discontent, guilt, hopelessness, loss of interest, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, mood swings, sadness, and loneliness.
- Behavioral: agitation, excessive crying, irritability, restlessness, or social isolation.
- Sleep: early awakening, excess sleepiness, insomnia, or restless sleep.
- Whole-body: excessive hunger, fatigue, or loss of appetite.
- Cognitive: lack of concentration, slowness in activity, or thoughts of suicide.
- Weight: weight gain or weight loss.
- poor appetite or repeatedly going over thoughts.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF DEPRESSION?
What can be the causes of a person being depressed?
The possible causes of it can be,
- Abuse: any kind of abuse like physical (can be of past), sexual abuse, or emotional abuse can lead to Depression.
- Medication: drug consumption can also lead to depression. Anticonvulsant which are used to control Epileptic Seizure, they include Zarontin & Celontin. They slow down the functioning of the brain.
- Death: Sadness or Grief over the death of loved ones by nature can increase the rate of depression.
- Genetics: A family history of depression can also increase risk.
- Stress: A lot of workloads can also lead to depression.
WHAT ARE THE TREATMENT FOR DEPRESSION?
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is for treating depression by talking and discussing the condition of the patient and related issues with a mental health professional. Psychotherapy is also called talk therapy.
There are many types of psychotherapy that can be effective for the treatment of depression for example cognitive-behavioral therapy and interpersonal therapy. Psychotherapy can help you with:
- Adjusting to the current difficulty.
- Replacing your negative thoughts with positive ones.
- Developing positive interactions with others.
- Find better ways to solve problems.
- Identify issues that contribute to your depression and change behaviors that make it worse.
- Having a sense of satisfaction and control in your life and help ease depression symptoms, such as hopelessness and anger.
- Develop the ability to tolerate.
- Accept distress using healthier behaviors.
